In every good space opera, there’s a scene where the hero walks into the armoury, hands over a wishlist, and walks out fifteen minutes later with a perfectly customised weapon built to spec. Real life, unfortunately, doesn’t quite work like that. But here at Lithgeek, we’ve gotten pretty close — and it all starts with booking an appointment.
Whether you’ve never owned a gaming PC before or you’re upgrading from an older rig that’s seen better days, the consultation is where your build actually begins. And if you’ve been putting it off because you’re not sure what to ask or what to expect, this post is for you.
Why the Consultation Matters
Building a custom gaming PC without talking to the person who’s going to use it is a bit like programming a GPS without knowing where you’re starting from. You might end up somewhere good — or you might end up on a dirt road in the Blue Mountains wondering what went wrong.
When you book an appointment with us, we sit down together and ask the questions that actually shape the build:
- What games do you play? Fast-paced shooters, open-world RPGs, racing sims, and strategy games all put different demands on hardware.
- What resolution is your monitor? There’s no point building a 4K powerhouse for a 1080p screen, and no point cutting corners if you’re running 1440p.
- Do you stream, record, or use the PC for work as well? That changes both the CPU choice and how much RAM makes sense.
- What’s your budget, and do you have a wishlist for future upgrades? We can build something that grows with you, or something solid and complete from day one.
Two people can walk in with identical budgets and walk out with very different machines — and both of those builds can be exactly right for who ordered them.

A Real-World Example: Forza Horizon 6
Let’s say you’re a racing fan who’s been looking forward to Forza Horizon 6 — Playground Games’ visually spectacular open-world racer set across Japan, which launched on 19 May. The PC version supports DLSS 4, AMD FSR 4, ray-traced reflections, uncapped frame rates, and ultrawide monitors. It looks stunning. Here’s what it actually takes to run it:
TODAY
| Setting | CPU | GPU | RAM | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum (1080p / Low / 60fps) | Core i5-8400 / Ryzen 5 1600 | GTX 1650 / RX 6500 XT | 16 GB | 167 GB SSD |
| Recommended (1440p / High / 60fps+) | Core i5-12400F / Ryzen 5 5600X | RTX 3060 Ti / RX 6700 XT | 16 GB | 167 GB SSD |
| Extreme (4K / 60fps+) | Core i7 12th Gen / Ryzen 7 | RTX 5070 Ti / RX 9070 XT | 32 GB | 167 GB NVMe SSD |
Here’s where the consultation changes everything. If you’re gaming on a 1080p screen with no plans to upgrade, spending big on 4K hardware is money that could go elsewhere. If you’re planning to move to 1440p within a year, we build with that in mind from the start. If Forza is your main game but you also want to run a few strategy titles and do some video editing, the CPU and RAM story shifts. There’s no single correct build — there’s the correct build for you.
What Happens After the Appointment
Once we’ve nailed down exactly what your build should look like, we source the components and put it together specifically for you. That’s why there’s no gaming PC sitting on a shelf waiting to go home with someone today — every machine we build is built for the person who booked it. Tested, configured, and ready when it’s ready.
It takes a bit longer than grabbing something off the shelf. But you’re not getting someone else’s idea of a gaming PC — you’re getting yours. And that makes a real difference down the line.
Ready to Book?
Come in with questions, come in with a wishlist, or come in with no idea where to start. All of those are perfectly fine starting points. You can book a time online at appointments.lithgeek.com/lithgeek and we’ll take it from there.
If you want to do a bit of reading before your appointment, our post on How to Build the Ultimate Custom Gaming PC breaks down what goes into getting the components right — a solid primer before we dive into your build together.
