PC Gaming vs. Mobile Gaming: A Look at Ark: Survival Evolved on Both Platforms

When it comes to gaming, thereโ€™s a definite allure to owning a high-performance gaming PC. Itโ€™s easy to feel superior when youโ€™ve invested $4000 in a custom-built rig, compared to those dabbling with mobile or console gaming. But letโ€™s be honest: isnโ€™t that the same kind of energy people bring to debates like Star Wars vs. Star Trek? (For the record, I love both!) The question remainsโ€”can a phone game truly hold its own against a gaming PC?

To find out, I put Ark: Survival Evolved to the test, playing it on both my high-end gaming PC and my iPhone 14 Pro. Spoiler alert: the experiences couldnโ€™t be more different.

PC vs Phone game

Ark: Survival Evolved on PC

Download Ark: Survival Evolved (Steam)

Playing Ark on a PC is an immersive adventure. The graphics are stunning, the sound design is incredible, and the world-building is second to none. Whether it’s the vivid textures of lush jungles or the terrifying sound of a raptorโ€™s cry, it all comes together to create a game thatโ€™s hard to put down.

As a self-proclaimed dinosaur enthusiast, Ark holds a special place in my heart. I love the challenge of taming dinos, surviving the wild, and building epic bases. (Though, letโ€™s be honestโ€”I die to raptors. A lot.) If I ever start a Twitch stream, youโ€™d probably just tune in to watch me become a snack over and over.

Ark: Survival Evolved on Mobile

Mobile gaming has come a long way from the days of Snake. Today, first-person shooters and expansive worlds are playable on devices that fit in your pocket. Ark: Survival Evolved Mobile delivers an impressive version of the gameโ€”but with some sacrifices.

The maps are nearly identical to the PC version, and the graphics are surprisingly polished for a mobile game. However, the mobile version lacks some of the features that make the PC version shine. For instance, issuing commands to your dinos is clunky, and certain gameplay mechanics are stripped back to optimize performance.

Mobile System Requirements:

  • iOS: Requires iOS 11 or later, 3GB RAM minimum (e.g., iPhone 8 or newer)
  • Android: Requires Android 7.0, 3GB RAM, and Vulkan support

Why Play Ark on Mobile?

  1. Budget-Friendly
Not everyone has $4,000 to drop on a custom gaming rig. If you already own a capable smartphone, mobile games like Ark are an affordable way to enjoy great titles.
  2. Portability
You canโ€™t haul a gaming PC onto the bus or whip out your rig in the waiting room at the doctorโ€™s office. Mobile Ark lets you hunt dodos wherever you are, giving it a serious edge in convenience.

Looking Ahead: The Evolution of Mobile Gaming

Technology is evolving at lightning speed. Just think back to the Napster days when downloading a single MP3 could take days. Now, entire games with console-quality graphics fit on our phones.

While mobile games will never completely replace PC gaming for enthusiasts, they are carving out a distinct niche. Titles like Ark: Survival Evolved show that mobile can deliver impressive gameplay experiences, even if they canโ€™t match the complexity of a high-performance PC setup.

My Review of Ark

If you are looking for a diffacult game that allows you to craft amazing baces and tame your very own battle TRex this is the game for you!

That said I have been waiting most of 2024 for the new mobile version of art to be released.
