I have been working with computers and computer techs for over 30 years. One thing that I have noted is that no matter how clean or organised the Computer repair and retail space a new tech will show up and say it is all wrong! So I am very aware of this when we took over Lithgow Tech Services.

That said there was a lot of work to do. I mean a lot … we are still working on it.

Break room refit

I know that most people would think that they should start with the Computer repair and retail areas of the refit because that is where the money is made. But the break room is a very important part of any business because it is part of what keeps the employees happy.

While a break room alone is not the key to keeping employees happy for us it was a symbol of our commitment to doing that. So we did it first. New coffee machine , removed anything that could be used as word in that area. Moved the fridge that was blocking the window. etc.

The break room alone was almost a whole days work for us.

Removing all the carpet in the computer repair room

I have worked many places that did computer repairs and something that many techs will argue about is ESD, (Electric Static Discharge). This is where the charge in your body builds up and can be released when a tech is repairing a device. If ESD precautions are not taken it can damage computers.

While many techs say this is not a real factor in repairs, I do. We are striving for a higher quality of repair and that starts with ESD protocols. Anti-ESD Mats, ESD-Straps and removing the carpets from the repair areas.

We spend over 20 hours of labour removing the carpets and scrubbing the concrete floor.

Letting our computer tech build his own repair space

Remember when I said that no matter how a organised or clean a Computer repair and retail space a new tech will show up and say it is all wrong! What happens when your new computer tech gets to set up his own computer repair shop?

We Basically told him he had this whole room to do whatever he wanted with the repair space. And he did! Felipe is a very tidy and organised computer technician. This combined with this skills in building and repairing computers we think this is going to be good fit!

Total Computer Retail redo!

The old retail space evolved over many years and was closer to a Jaycar than a computer shops. Adapters and cablers everywhere. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with that. It worked for many years however, we are moving more into the gaming pc repairs and building space and cables and adapters are boring to look at.

We moved everything in the repair space around, and plan to display more of or gaming side.

Sore and still working

I think that everyone has sore muscles and a little more than tired. I know that Marc and I have been putting in 14 hour days sense we started.
